Boys Home hosts 5th Annual Harvest Hustle – 5K, 10K and Half-Marathon

Boys Home of Virginia will host their 5th annual fall fundraising event, the Boys Home Harvest Hustle 5K, 10K and half-marathon on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Boys Home is excited to celebrate this amazing milestone with the students, staff, and participants.

In 2020, Boys Home was thankful to be able to host an in-person event, and with 138 participants, it was our biggest event yet. This event was a huge success and involved runners from all over the United States.  Plans are in place to add some special features to the program this year, such as more awards, more fun, and more food.

All three races will begin and end at the Intervale Trailhead of the Jackson River Scenic Trail, in Covington, VA. The event will offer aid stations along the race routes with mini pre-packaged water bottles and Gatorades available. T-shirts and participation medals will be available for all runners, as well as individual pre-packaged snacks and drinks before and after the race.

Awards for each race will begin approximately 30 minutes after the top three men and women racers cross the finish line. Top three finishers male and female overall and top three male and female in each age category will receive awards. Our age categories are: Under 12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

Race weekend schedule:

30th Anniversary of the Boys Home P. Buckley Moss Print Raffle

For 30 years, P. Buckley Moss has donated a print for Boys Home of Virginia to raffle. This year’s print is entitled Autumn on the Farm #7 and is valued around $200.00 framed.

Patricia Buckley Moss, an American artist, was born in 1933 on Staten Island in New York. She moved with her husband and children in 1964 to Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. She became captivated by the life and culture of the Amish and Mennonite people of the area. She embraced the local landscapes, lifestyles, and traditions and felt that the life and culture she was part of held an important message for modern society: live simply and enjoy every moment!

The print was framed by Loving Frame & Art located in Covington. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 10 for $45.

Boys Home will draw a winner on October 29, 2021. Please fill out and return the attached form. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Boys Home Development Office at 540-965-7707, email Melinda Nichols at mnichols@boyshomeofva.org.
