Boys Home Farm

Hands-On Learning Through Nature

In addition to the core classes, Boys Home School offers equine enrichment and agricultural classes. These courses are crucial for the overall development of our students, offering hands-on learning experiences that teach responsibility, empathy, and teamwork. Working with horses and participating in agricultural activities helps students build confidence and develop problem-solving skills. These activities also provide therapeutic benefits, aiding in the healing process from past traumas by fostering connections with animals and nature. Additionally, equine and agricultural education instill a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the environment, preparing students for future careers and contributing to their well-being and personal growth.

Farm Manager and Equine Instructor Linda Angle states, “The goal for the farm is to educate the students about the different animals and the role they each play. The most important thing is getting the students outdoors, getting their hands busy in a constructive way, and getting them involved in nature.  I believe it is important that young people see where their food comes from and learn they can grow it themselves. The students gain a lot of pride and self-confidence when they see their efforts grow.”

“For the equine program, I want to see the students dive further into their understanding of the horses. I want the students to understand the “why” behind the lessons I am teaching them through the equine program. Additionally, I want to see students’ confidence grow in their abilities.”
