Boys Home to host Admissions Open House at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Virginia on August 22 at 5:00 p.m.

On Thursday, August 22, Boys Home of Virginia will host an Admissions Open House at St. John’s Episcopal Church (1 Mountain Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016). The event is open to all prospective students, parents and guardians. All attendees will learn more about our school, residential program, and the admissions process. Guests will have time to ask questions and discover how Boys Home can make a positive impact in the life of a young man. Since 1906, the Boys Home program has been the pathway toward success for many young men who simply needed an opportunity.  

Enrollment is currently open, and Boys Home is accepting applications. No student is ever turned away for financial reasons. We have full scholarships available now. Boys Home of Virginia Receives Grant from People’s Bank Foundation Inc. for Facilities Campaign

On Monday, June 10, Boys Home was presented with a $2,000 grant from People’s Bank Foundation Inc. The bank has a local branch in Covington, Virginia, that offers trusts, investments, mortgage, home equity loans, insurance and full banking services. Boys Home is truly grateful for the support! The grant will be designated for the current facilities campaign.  

Boys Home’s matching facilities grant campaign will run through November 15, 2024. So far, over $50,000 has been raised toward a goal of $100,000. Projects funded by the grant include a HVAC upgrade and various roofing repairs. To learn more about the grant, please contact Director of Development, Dr. J.R. Farrington at 980-258-1484.

The Boys Home Invitational Golf Tournament Was A Wonderful Success!

 

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, Boys Home of Virginia hosted its first Invitational Golf Tournament on The Cascades Course at the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia. Check-in began at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. Despite the inclement weather, 16 teams enjoyed an exciting round of golf on a beautiful course with a delicious lunch, as well as an exceptional opportunity to support Boys Home.

Awards were given out to the top four teams. The 1st place team had a score of 59, they were sponsored by Campbell Insurance from Lynchburg, Virginia and won the tournament. Golfers included John Alford, Blake Anderson, Will Absher, and Clayton Forren. The 2nd and 3rd place teams both scored 62, but cards were matched to break the tie. The 2nd place team was made up of VMI cadets sponsored by Powell Industries. Golfers included Alan Stewart, Branco Jaworski, Ian Struzzeri and Tim Mackey. Bob and Meredith Sherrill headed up the 3rd place team, along with Zach Crouch and Carter Ramsey. The final winner in 4th place was a team from Lynchburg who scored 63. This team included John Compher, John Maddox, Marty Gibson, and Jackie Mays.

Prizes were also awarded for one longest drive hole #14 and three closest to the pin on holes. Kelly Bingel won the longest drive prize. The winners for closest to the pin were #8 – Blake Anderson, #15 – Perry Williams and #18 – Branco Jarwirski.
