We Have So Much In Store for You
Spring is approaching, and with it, our most anticipated day of the year! Our Community Day Open House is back this April, and we are so excited to welcome everyone back and see new faces!
Last year’s Open House was a hit, bringing in hundreds of visitors to Boys Home of Virginia! Families were able to sit down, ask questions, familiarize themselves with our campus, and address all the important questions. Students played games, shared meals, and showed off what they’ve been learning in the classroom and beyond.
The positive feedback was overwhelming, with many guests commenting on our students’ warmth and the genuine care our staff brings to their work every single day.
One mom shared with us after spending the afternoon here at our last Community Day, “During our recent visit, [my son] was immediately drawn to the warmth of your staff and the camaraderie among the boys. He spoke for days afterward about the woodworking shop and the possibility of joining the soccer team. Most importantly, he said, ‘Mom, I love it there, and I cannot wait to go.’ In that moment, I knew Boys Home would not only address his academic challenges but also provide a place where he could belong, contribute, and grow into the confident young man he is meant to be.”
That moment captured exactly what we hope Community Day accomplishes. It’s a chance to experience Boys Home not through a brochure or website, but by being here, seeing our students in action, and getting a real feel for what life on campus looks like.
This year, we are building on that foundation with even more opportunities to connect!
What to Expect at Community Day 2026
Community Day runs from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, April 25th, and you’re welcome to stay the entire time or drop in at your convenience. Here’s what we have planned:
Admissions Session
- Talk directly with our admissions team throughout the day
- Learn about our program and the application process
- Ask questions about how we support students academically, emotionally, and spiritually
- Have real conversations without any pressure, whether you’re just starting to research or ready to take the next step
Lunch, Activities & Exhibits
- Food will be served from 11:00 to 3:00
- Inflatables and games all afternoon
- Plenty of chances to chat with students and staff
- See the guys being themselves, laughing, and playing
- Experience what daily life feels like on campus
Community Day isn’t structured like a formal event with a strict schedule. You can show up when you want, stay as long as you want, and spend your time however makes sense for you. Feel free to ask questions, wander around campus, and take it all in at your own pace.
Who Should Come to Our Open House
This event is open to the public, and we encourage you to bring someone who would like to learn more about our work.
Families Considering Boys Home
Maybe you’ve been researching schools or curious about a new environment for a while now. Maybe you just heard about us last week. Either way, if you’re wondering whether Boys Home might work for your son, come see it yourself. Walk around campus, talk to our staff, and meet some of the students. Many families say that being here in person helped them determine whether this was the right fit. There’s no substitute for firsthand experience of the place as you get to know our community.
Churches & Community Groups
Last year, we had several churches bring groups of people who wanted to learn more about what we do. Some already knew about Boys Home and wanted to see the campus. Others were hearing about us for the first time. If your church or organization is interested in learning how we serve young men or how you might get involved, Community Day is a great starting point.
Potential Sponsors, Partners,& Volunteers
If your business has been thinking about partnering with a local organization, or if you’ve been considering volunteering your time, Community Day is a chance to see what partnership with Boys Home looks like in action. Over the years, we’ve worked with electric cooperatives, local pharmacies, newspapers, and companies focused on sustainability and infrastructure. We’ve had volunteers support everything from campus projects to student mentoring. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. If you’re interested in supporting our work, come see what we do, and we can talk about how your skills or resources might make a difference.
Anyone Curious About Our Work
You don’t have to be considering enrollment or planning to get involved in some official way. If you live in the area and you’re curious about Boys Home, what happens here, or why we do things the way we do, you’re invited. Community Day is for everyone.
Why This Day Matters
There are some things you just can’t capture in words or pictures, even in social media or our newsletters. You have to be here to understand the energy of our community, the pride on a student’s face when he shows you something he built in trades class, or the way our staff genuinely knows and cares for each young man on campus.
Community Day gives you that chance. It strips away the formality and lets you see Boys Home in action. This is your opportunity to put faces to names and get a firsthand account of what we actually do here.
