Residential Education Day 2017 is coming up soon. On May 5th, we’ll host our 9th annual RE Day here on campus. We hope you’ll be able to join us for a great day of learning about Boys Home! Click HERE for additional information about the event or to RSVP.
You hear the word a lot, thrown around casually through the course of a conversation. It is often used to describe the morale and character of an individual who overcomes hardships and does not waver from their goals. In an individual it is easy to see the results of meeting the challenge. For a team it is much, much harder.
The Boys Home Basketball Team just wrapped up their season with a 10-19 record. While this does not compare well to last season’s breakout year, it did show how well the team overcame a lot of obstacles to get to that point. It wasn’t a tale of one season, but of two.
Boys Home of Virginia is very excited to raffle this beautiful quilt made by Executive Director Donnie Wheatley’s sister, Phyllis Gibson. Phyllis is a very talented quilter and she has made it a tradition to donate handmade quilts to Boys Home each year for us to raffle. Phyllis and her friends Alan and Nancy Kontak also work hard each year to make sure every boy has a handmade quilt on their bed. We’re so thankful for the dedication Phyllis shows by blessing Boys Home and the boys with her talents.
The quilt we’re raffling this year is 96″ x 92″ and is a professionally quilted “Charleston Romance” pattern quilt. Tickets are $5 for 1 ticket or $45 for 10 tickets. We will draw the winner on March 17, 2017. All proceeds will go to Religious Life at Boys Home.
We had a great evening on September 17, celebrating the Hall of Fame here at Boys Home. Four new members were inducted: (above, left to right) Buford Brown, Kenneth Burns, Sr., Wesley Corbin, and Antonio Gibbs. A full article will be printed in our next Boys Appeal and video of the full ceremony is below. It was an honor to celebrate former staff members and alumns who have made such a difference in so many lives.
